Robert Odawi Porter, the President of the Deneca Nation echoed these sentiments this week before the Washington Senate committee according to the news reported by the Buffalo. Porter went on to say that the current online gambling scenario seems to be one that is looking for an instant solution to regulate online gambling. The tribal leader showed his disapproval and disappointment at corporate casinos to leave out the Indian tribes from the online gambling boom saying that the tribe’s sovereignty will be threatened.
Elaborating further, Porter informed the Indian Affairs committee to urge Congress to let the Indian tribe be one of the first to enter the regulated market of online gambling. He said that corporate moguls in New Jersey and Nevada consider Indian gaming to be a competitive threat, which means that they are bound to push the Indian tribes away from online gambling as much as possible. He also said that the big casinos are presenting a fairy tale story to congress by saying that they possess the necessary resources and technology to get the online gambling sites running.
Porter also confirmed that he has no doubt that the Indian tribe will be able to thrive and offer stiff competition in the online gambling market. Once the hearing was over, Porter informed the Buffalo News that whilst he is not advocating for online gambling, the Seneca nation is willing and hoping to participate preferably on equal footing when online gambling is legalized and regulated.
