Replacing defending World Poker Tour Ladies Night champion, actress/player Jennifer Tilly, Joanne "JJ" Liu became the new champion as she claimed the winner’s prize and earned herself a $25,000 seat at the World Poker Tour's Championship Event, as well as the World Poker Tour ring. The tournament, which was held at the Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, California, first saw Tilly lose out to amateur Kelli Griggs, who also managed to beat Vanessa Rousso after Rousso pushed all-in from the big blind on a flop of T-T-6. Rousso made the mistake of thinking her K6 was good, but instead ran right into Griggs' flopped trip tens. Liu, in the meanwhile, was able to eliminate Erica Schoenberg and Anahit Galajian from the competition leaving Griggs and Liu open for the final confrontation after only three hours of play at the final table. The final between Griggs and Liu was just as swift, with Griggs being eliminated by Liu in just over 20 minutes. Liu’s latest win brings the number of money finishes she has achieved in major tournaments to forty-five and brings her gross winnings to more than three quarters of million dollars in the process. It is likely that Liu’s Asian background will improve even further her chances of earning big money through sponsorships and endorsements, rewards she has most deservedly earned as a result of her great talent and controlled and professional playing.
