Kelli Griggs, from California, fought her way through a starting field of 419 other players this week, to win the top money prize at the Bicycle Casino's Ladies Event, better known as the Ladies Poker Party. In addition to receiving the cash prize, as the winner, Ms. Griggs was selected for the World Poker Tour's Ladies Night IV, where she will get to compete against other outstanding female poker players including Jennifer Tilly (last year’s Ladies Night III champion), Anahit Galajian, JJ Liu, Vanessa Rousso, and Erica Schoenberg. The World Poker Tour Ladies Night begins at the end of this month. The Bicycle Tournament has particular relevance to Griggs’ life because of its pledge to donate ten percent of the prize pool to the breast cancer foundation. Griggs, a mother of two, is herself a four—year survivor of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Also, her grandmother died of breast cancer and her aunt is currently battling the disease. Upon winning the cash prize, Griggs made her own donation of $2,500 to the foundation. By winning a single table satellite last month, Griggs was able to pay for her seat at the 2006 WSOP Ladies Event. She quickly turned that success into another one in the Bicycle Casino’s Ladies Event when she won a 59th place money finish out of 1128 other players. Posted on: September 11, 2006
