Online poker and casino gambling software developer, Boss Media, and government-owned Swedish Games Corp. have joined forces to launch Sweden’s first-ever government-owned online poker room website. The deal was announced earlier this year and has finally come to fruition this week, with the poker website, developed by Boss Media, set to go March 30. Analysts predict that other government-owned online gambling companies will soon follow suit should the move by Swedish Games Corp., led by Svenska Spel, prove successful. There are a total of approximately 140 World Lottery Association (WLA) government-owned licensed gaming companies, no doubt all of whom, are closely following the outcome of the partnership between Boss Media and Swedish Games Corp. Boss Media’s president Johan Berg, said: "There are more companies in the starting blocks and they are well aware of our role in the development of this poker site and how important it is that the system supplier is the right one." In November 2005, Svenska Spel, a pioneer among WLA operators in online gaming, received approval from the Swedish government to be the first gaming company in the country. Upon receiving approval, preparations quickly began with the goal of creating a first class poker site in terms of entertainment and gaming responsibility. Posted on: April 7, 2006
