According to a report from Professional-Poker, a Los Angeles based reality TV company called BlueMoon Entertainment has lodged a complaint with the LA Superior Court alleging that the upcoming Calvin Ayre-Bodog poker reality show "Wild Card Poker" is based on a concept developed by BlueMoon Entertainment. BlueMoon Entertainment’s accusation has assumed greater significance with the press because it comes right after a raid by the Costa Rican authorities that took place during Bodog’s wrap party for the filming. Ayre is hosting the first episode of the show, which is scheduled to air on Fox Sports TV this week. BlueMoon Entertainment attempted to stop the airing of the show but a judge turned down the company’s request for an injunction to suspend screening. Wild Card Poker is a six-episode reality series about a $500 000 poker tournament and includes takes about the Costa Rican lifestyle as well as glimpses of the lifestyle and activities of Bodog's billionaire founder and top man, Calvin Ayre. Bluemoon Entertainment is a well-established and respected producer of a variety of documentaries and reality shows which have appeared on many of America’s leading TV networks in the last ten years. The disagreement between the two companies presumably has its roots in a previous business arrangement between them as the Bluemoon claim refers to their expert advice in "...complete project disclosure and numerous proposal and development materials, including product overviews and synopsis, episodic outlines, distribution and marketing breakdowns and production schedules with full analysis". The expert input was apparently made between May and August of 2005. In the claim, references are made to a non-disclosure agreement concerning the content of the Bodog-BlueMoon interaction. Bluemoon is seeking damages for breach of confidence, breach of contract, implied breach of contract, and misappropriation of ideas. A spokesman for Bodog said that they have hired legal counsel and, if necessary, will file a defense and a counterclaim in Court. There is some possibility for a settlement, however, as Bodog hopes to get meet with BlueMoon to "...resolve the matter without the need for litigation." Posted on: April 28, 2006
