This afternoon, Western Missouri was hit by a winter snowstorm. The snowstorm was supposed to produce frigid temperature and snow, which of course in not pleasant weather for gamblers to even take to the streets. The weather will probably inspire gamblers to stay at home or head back home from wherever they may be.
The gaming industry in Missouri has been facing a major struggle since the volatile economy and a recession that followed. St. Louis' President Casino was shut down, once an agreement was reached between the Pinnacle Entertainment and Gaming Commission in Missouri to give back their license. Although many developers have coveted this license by making attempts to bid on it even in such a tough economic situation.
The country has seen some rough weather, and it has been no different in Kansas City. The whole country has been experiencing stormy and cold winter days. The weather has resulted in slowing of revenue in casinos throughout the country, especially when the gaming industry is experiencing a dip in its usual revenue. Competition is another major factor for some casinos experiencing this dip.
Missouri was always ahead of other states when it came to gambling and casino revenue, but in recent years many of the other states have caught on. There are a number of states, including New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Florida and Maryland that have brought in new gambling law expansions.
Some of the Kansas City casinos that have hurt during this rough weather include, Ameristar, Harrah's, Isle of Capri and Argosy. There has been a lull in revenue at these casinos due to a bad winter, but the winter during the New Year has been much worse than the previous winters in the state.
