There have been unconfirmed reports that online casino software provider, Real Time Gaming (RTG), is planning to relocate to Costa Rica. The report, originating from a disgruntled as well as unidentified source (claiming to be ‘close to RTG’) revealed that the software company is tightening its belt and cutting down on staff size because it is preparing to close its Atlanta, Georgia operations and relocate to Costa Rica. If the rumors do indeed turn out to be true, RTG would not be the first company to be affected by U.S government’s current anti-online gambling environment, which is most likely the motivation behind the relocation decision. In the report, the unidentified source said that RTG management in Atlanta recently held a staff meeting to announce that the company would soon be closing its operations in that city. Apparently, most of the staff working at RTG’s Atlanta-based facility will not be relocated to Costa Rica or kept on as employees in Atlanta. Real Time Gaming is not a newcomer to the e-gaming phenomenon, having started its operations back in 1988. They were named as one of the top online gaming software suppliers and licensers from 2000 –2003 and boasts Bodog Casino as their biggest customer. It’s not been all smooth sailing for RTG, however, and the company was particularly hard hit in 2004 when several casino licensees went bust and a several of its other more profitable clients moved to other gaming platforms. The company has continued to suffer a series of setbacks ever since. Recently, the controlling interests of RTG attempted to sell the company, which resulted in at least one due diligence from a perspective buyer who was already in the gaming software business. The sale eventually fell through. At this time, a visit to Realtimegaming.com shows only a one-page site with all client lists and all company information removed. Only the contact address of RTG’s Curacao-based sales office is displayed. Posted on: January 27, 2007
