It remains to be seen whether PartyGaming, which just recently pulled itself out of the American online gambling market after Congress passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, is contemplating a return to that same market, but rumors abound that such a move is exactly on the horizon. As is typical of this holiday season time of year, the slow pace of online gambling news gives rise to rumors about major players in the industry, and the PartyGaming rumor is definitely one of the biggest and most interesting. PartyGaming, however, has thus far refused to provide an official statement confirming or denying its reentry into the American market so everything remains pure speculation. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, pushed through Congress at the last minute by Senator Bill Frist of Arizona and signed into law by President Bush, went into effect on October 13th. The legislation prohibits banks and credit card companies from processing financial transactions between online casinos and poker rooms and US residents and had the effect of forcing many public online gambling companies out of the US market. The companies that withdrew then suffered a substantial drop in share prices as the US market had constituted the main source of business for most of these companies. PartyGaming was one of the public companies to withdraw from the US market, but it is possible that the online gambling giant has been following the impressive growth of the private online casinos and poker rooms that continued to operate in the US market and now wants to return for a share of the action.
