According to Party Gammon.com, its January 07 million-dollar backgammon tournament to be held in the Bahamas will soon be sold out. The tournament, which offers the largest guaranteed prize pool in the history of backgammon, is scheduled for January 21st through the 25th of 2007 and will be held at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The maximum number of players allowed in the tournament is 128 and openings are going fast. Potential participants will be chosen from players who qualify online and players who buy directly in to the tournament. Expert backgammon players from all over the world, including Japan, Argentina, and Chile, are already slated to appear at the tournament as are Phillip Vischajager, the 2006 world champion from Holland, and Nack Ballard, the reigning backgammon champion from the U.S.A. “"Places for the tournament are being snapped up fast and we anticipate that we'll soon be sold out. There are a few places left, however, so it is not too late to book your flight to the Bahamas," said a PartyGammon.com spokesman. "The quality of players in the field is very high. It will be intriguing to see how the online qualifiers get on against the world champions." The 2007 PartyGammon.com Million tournament is offering a guaranteed first prize of $500,000 minimum, which exceeds the 2006 PartyGammon.com tournament offer five times over. The remaining minimum $500,000 will be distributed to other finishers in the main and consolation event. It’s not too late to qualify for this spectacular event, though, and you can do so for as little as $2.50. Those that do qualify will receive a sponsored package worth $12,500. Included in the package is a $10 000 buy-in for the main event, a five-night stay in the luxurious Atlantis resort, and $800 for travel expenses. The PartyGammon.com Million will be filmed for television and then distributed to television networks all around the globe. Posted on: January 1, 2007
