He will establish a new enforcement team to take action against illegal gambling, prosecute Gambling Act offences, pursue regulatory action against licensed operators and maintain working relationships with police and enforcement agencies. Andrew is a qualified solicitor. Announcing the new appointments, Chief Executive Jenny Williams said: “This is an extremely exciting time for the Gambling Commission. We are establishing the new organization in Birmingham almost from scratch. It includes recruiting staff, implementing new processes and IT systems and developing working policies and practices to be in place when the Gambling Act 2005 comes into effect at the end of 2007. The Gambling Commission has taken over the Gaming `Board’s role. It will now also be fully responsible for regulating remote gambling and betting. It will set the new conditions under which licenses are granted to gambling operators and staff and issue new codes of practice and will have significant new legal powers to monitor the industry and to prosecute illegal gambling. It will also advise central and local government on gambling related issues. “I’m delighted with the new executive team who are coming in on the ground floor to help design a new public sector organization, establish productive relations with its stakeholders and play a major part in steering the industry culture in the right direction.” Posted on: January 4, 2006
