The house is an impossible place to be. Every time someone sees me standing around doing nothing they quickly send me off on some errand or other. “I need another lettuce for the salad!” “We need more floor wax!” My days have become a nightmare of rushing up and down to the local stores. My wallet is feeling the strain and I am bored and irritable out of my mind. On the bench in the park it is quiet and peaceful. The bench is partly in the shade of the tall trees and there is a warm breeze blowing. I sigh deeply, open the laptop and log into the online casino. Considering the money we are spending on the New Year’s Eve party we are throwing for our friends and family I decide to play “penny stakes” only, meaning penny a spin or penny a card. Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose but I reckon I can sit here in the online casino for hours enjoying myself and end up spending very little, perhaps winning or losing only a dollar or two. I play 3-card poker in the online casino. I started off by playing according to all the well-known poker strategies, but I soon find out that 3-card is a different poker game. I develop my own very simple system. If I am not holding at least one picture card, I fold. If I have at least one picture card, I play on. Soon I rack up quite a nice pile of pennies. Now I am sorry that I selected to play for such low stakes. I win a huge number of pennies. I have a great uninterrupted day. When the light fades I pack up and go home. Tomorrow, I decide, I will raise the stakes to 5 cents instead of a penny. This way I can afford to be inside the online casino for hours and hours at a time. And then, of course, there’s always the chance that I may end up winning. Posted on: December 30, 2009
