I always had a secret fear that one day there would be a big snowfall and our low- lying house would be completely covered over. Now it’s happened. The house must be invisible from the street. There’s nothing for it but to fire up the computer, send out a few SOS emails and then gamble online until help arrives. I start off by checking the balance in my deposit account in the online casino and find that it looks fairly healthy. But I will need to win if I want to gamble seriously. Anyway, I can gamble online to my heart’s content. I start with the slots, to get my fingers warmed up. I drop single coins to make my money last longer and keep some for the heavy gambling that I hope is coming later. Once or twice I manage to line up 4 cherries and I hear the bells jangling as I hit a small jackpot. And then a message comes up on the screen. “You Are Playing Slots in the Silver Spanner, The World’s Number One Online Casino. Play Max Coins and You Qualify For Our Progressive Jackpot! You Could Win Millions!” That sounds more like my style. Imagine winning a million dollars gambling online while being snowed in. That would be poetic justice! So I immediately I switch to playing only the Max Coins button in the online casino. It’s rather like feeding bread crumbs to ducks. The wide open slot swallows everything and just sits there waiting for more and more and more. My credit balance starts dropping quickly and it’s only when I have a decent hit that I win back coins. But I decide to persist, the thought of the prize outweighing everything else. Then I drop coins and hear a bell ringing. It’s a big win but it’s not the progressive jackpot. It’s not that easy in the online casino, and it’s going to take longer, it seems. But I’m wrong. It doesn’t take long at all. My speakers are at Max volume and when the progressive jackpot fire alarm goes off. My wife comes running out of the kitchen to see to see what’s happened. It can keep snowing for all I care!
