Pacific Poker, a subsidiary of 888 Online Casino, will be sponsoring two new poker shows that are to be aired on British TV. The two celebrity-themed shows will be aired on the Challenge Television Network with the first one, “Women’s Poker” to run for two weeks beginning April 3. The second show, “Showbiz Poker”, will air weekdays starting April 17th. Show times for “Women’s Poker” and “Showbiz Poker” are 10 PM and 10:30 PM respectively.
The “Showbiz Poker” show will be a series of celebrity-based tournament style games with a prize pool of GBP 25,000. Contestants on The “Women’s Poker” show will be drawn from a mix of home viewers, celebrity poker enthusiasts and recognized poker professionals.
Celia Taylor, a Challenge TV executive, commented on the dramatic rise of female poker players in what has always been a male-dominated game: “"We're always ahead of the game in poker programming and women are about to clean up in the male dominated poker world”.
“Showbiz Poker” and “Women’s Poker” are not the first poker tournaments broadcasted by Challenge TV. The station has also aired such poker tournaments as Celebrity Poker Showdown, Ultimate Poker Challenge, the World Poker Tour (WPT), and the World Series of Poker (WSOP).
