Microgaming, a top online gambling software provider, received an award this week for its contributions to the economy of the Isle of Man. The Isle of Man Newspaper Awards 2006, held in the capital of Douglas, recognized Microgaming for their contributions in an announcement by former Tory MP and broadcaster, Gyles Brand, describing the company as “part of the next wave of business to take the Island into the future”. Microgaming had been entered into the competitive category of “New Organization of the Year” – a category open to any company that had been operating on the island for the last two to ten years. Roger Raatgever, Microgaming’s chief executive officer, commented on the win by quoting from the company’s award citation: “Microgaming quickly realized that the Internet was not just a version of an offline casino room, but a totally new playing experience with the potential to entertain and engage people in many ways. It also realized that to achieve this it would require constant evolution and innovation. We want to thank all of our staff for their part in brining that vision to fruition and making this win possible.” Posted on: December 1, 2006
