European Open Poker Tournament Attracts Famous Names

Former Miss Great Britian, Danielle Lloyd, and her professional football player boyfriend, Teddy Sheringham, will be playing the initial hands at the third annual European open poker tournament scheduled for December 4th through the 11th.  The two celebrities, who were contracted to play at the tournament’s celebrity kickoff, had previously been surrounded by quite a bit of controversy when Lloyd lost her title because Sheringham had been one of the acting judges at the beauty contest.  Tournament organizers no doubt saw the controversy as a plus, thinking it would grab the headlines and help promote the event.

A spokesperson for PartyPoker.com said that a referee would be present at all times during the tournament to make sure that “no loving and knowing glances take place over the table” that could be construed as misconduct.

"The real tension could come from the battle of the babes however, as the new presenter of poker on Five is Roxanne Siordia, Maxim's current girl of the year in the U.S.," the spokesperson said. "Danielle is used to being the biggest draw wherever she goes, but it is going to be a close run thing this time."

Actor Jamie Foreman of “Layer Cake”, DJ Spoony, Snooker legend Steve Davis, and warhorse Brandon Block are some of the other celebrities that will be attending the tournament.  Also, in attendance will last year’s tournament winner, Ian Frazer.  Frazer will be returning to defend his title and to compete for the top prize of $125,000.  Matchroom Sport will be filming the tournament, which will be aired on channel 5 in the UK early in 2007.
