According to the unidentified source of an exclusive report on the 911 online gambling portal, a sting operation, initiated by the Queens District Attorney, has rounded up 32 agents working with offshore sportsbooks. It is further reported that approximately $300,000 was confiscated from one of the agents that was caught in the sting. The details of the operation have yet to be released, but according to 911, law enforcement authorities had obtained search warrant against the online gambling party involved in the sting and were able to monitor betting activity via expert computer “code breaking”. The name of the online gambling site that was under investigation has also not yet been released, but more information about the arrests, including the name of the site, will be forthcoming at a press conference scheduled for Wednesday. The agents’ movements between New York and Las Vegas were traced via wiretaps placed by law enforcement agencies. The group itself was based out of Hunts Point, The Bronx, while the servers for the offshore sportsbook’s web site were based in Florida and Atlanta. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the arrest of another offshore betting operation, which dealt in credit, led to the July arrest of David Carruthers, the former CEO of BetonSports. Carruthers’ company allegedly housed the defendants. Posted on: November 28, 2006
