As part of a major advertising stunt, the Gibraltar-based online casino and poker room, 888.com, is hoping that Gibraltar’s heirs to the throne, Prince William, Prince Harry, Princess Beatrice, and Peter and Zara Phillips, will agree to play a hand of Texas Hold’em for charity. Riding the tide of popularity for the latest James Bond movie, “Casino Royal”, 888.com is organizing the charity as a real Casino Royal event -- one that features a pot worth GBP one million. The winner of the pot will then donate GBP 600, 000 of it to his or her favorite charity while the other players will get to donate GBP 100,000 to a charity of their liking. While it is not definite yet whether the members of the royal family have agreed to play at the charity, Matt Robinson, head of offline marketing for 888.com, did point out that royalty and card playing have a historical link, adding that the release of the latest James Bond movie has made it only fitting that there be a royal poker event in the name of charity. It is assumed that Gibraltar’s future generation of royals, Princes Charles and Andrew and Princess Anne, will follow in their parents’ footsteps and carry on the tradition of working for charities and good causes.
