Despite the calm exterior Alex Jacobs was projecting to the outside world, the Yale graduate was inwardly celebrating after winning the U.S. Poker Championship at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City and taking home the $878,500 grand prize. The 22-year old Jacobs, also known as “Yatzhem”, overcame a starting field of 260 players to become the Atlantic City champ. Jacobs’ total poker earnings came to an amazing $1,690,000. Prior to the Atlantic City tournament, Jacobs’ best placing in a tournament had been second place at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Foxwoods Poker Classic Championship event in April. Jacobs beat out second place poker hot shot, Jordan Morgan, to win the U.S. Poker Championship. Morgan received $405,072 for his second place finish. Overall, Jacobs has had a stellar year, first graduating in May from Yale where he majored in economics and mathematics and then placing second at Foxwoods where he took home $655,000 for his impressive performance at the tournament.
