In London this week the comedian and poker player, Norman Pace's wife, Beverley, pocketed fifty thousand dollars and was awarded the title of first Party Poker Women's World Open Champion in the wake of a grueling contest and nervy face to face with Jen Mason. Following several swings Mason's ace jack off suit couldn't beat Pace's pocket sixes. According to Pace, she was delighted to have triumphed over Mason, who represented a fearsome opponent and holds a significant curriculum vitae of current triumphs. Pace said that she maintains a great deal of esteem for Mason and the latter has been a teacher for her through the competitions. It could be, Pace claims, that she did herself more harm than good by plying me with her advice as I have learnt a great deal about her playing. She went on to say how very happy she was at winning. It is, she said, her first major triumph and she aims at accumulating a bankroll to go ahead and hopes soon to play additional competitions for larger sums. In April she came in sixth place in the Ladies European Championship and this year reached WSOP and Aussie Millions but has not really cashed in a significant sum. In the match a consolation prize of twenty two thousand dollars was awarded to Mason after she had survived the last round of the heads up to face Pace. Maria Demetriou, Jackie Vaswani, Kara Scott and Bronwyn Campbell were the additional finalist players at the table. Including ex PartyPoker World Open victor and Xuyen Pham the European Ladies champion, as well as Pippa Flanders, Lucy Rokach, Shannon Elizabeth, Jackie Meecham, Liz Lieu, Katharine Hartree, Jennifer Tilly, the event featured numerous best women players from across the globe, the event demanded a three thousand dollar buy-in to participate. Across the British circuit, the thirty year married Bev Pace and husband Norman are a celebrated and favorite pair. For some four and half years, Pace has been playing poker and the charity of Meningitis Research Foundation has been chaired by her in her free time. The new victor claims that women's contests are beneficial for introducing more women to poker. For a mixed men and women game the level doesn't change, however, they do goad some women to become more prominent where in other situations they wouldn't be. Posted on: August 24, 2007
