World Wide Web Games Tournament Grand Prize Could Go to U.S. and Canadian Finalists

After qualifying to participate in the World Wide Web games organized by FunTech for Saturday, September 9th in Los Angeles, two players from the KiwiSkill.com site just might have the opportunity to take home the $1 million grand prize and champion title “World’s Best Casual Gamer”. The two will be competing in the first-ever World Wide Web Games tournament. The tournament will be held at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood.

Both players, Kelli from Pennsylvania and Derek from British Columbia, will be flown into LA so that they can participate in the tournament.

Kelli, the player from Pennsylvania, had this to say about the opportunity: “I am very excited to have an opportunity to participate in such an exciting challenge. While I am a proficient player at home, my biggest fear, however, is that I will panic under public pressure”.

There were 75 finalists that made the cut and will be going to Los Angeles to compete in the World Wide Web Games (more commonly referred to as the W3 Games). In order to qualify for the tournament, the players had to achieve the highest scores in their tournament bracket in any one of three of the most popular casual games - Bejeweled 2, Solitaire or Zuma. Subsidiaries of FUN Technologies will be hosting the games which will be filmed for a TV special set to air on GSN, the Network for Games, later this year.

“We’re thrilled that two Kiwi Skill players made it into the finals in the World Wide Web games. We’re rooting for Kelli and Derek all the way and hope one of them comes out the champion," commented Gary Jensen of Kiwi Skill. “It’s amazing how fast this industry is growing…we now fly players from all around the world to compete for $1 million.”

Skills gaming popularity is growing quickly and the casual games industry is expected to grow to $1.56 billion by the end of 2008. According to a study done by DFC Intelligence earlier this year, it’s estimated that approximately 124 million players go online to visit skill gaming sites.

This form of gaming is popular primarily because it is easy to use and because it is possible to play these games and challenge other players to a friendly game of skill online. A wide range of games is available and players are able to challenge each other to a game in real time tournaments. They can also play head to head for cash prizes.

Kiwi Skill is part of the Kiwi Gaming family, which includes Kiwi Bingo, Kiwi Casino and Kiwi Poker. Kiwi Gaming is part of the land-based Christchurch Casino Group and is an independent offshore operation.
