September 16th is the opening date for the fifth annual World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) and is approaching fast. Pokerstars organizers are working around the clock in preparation for the big event. Players from over 80 countries are expected to attend. They will be competing in 18 tournaments in a guaranteed prize pool of ten million dollars. The WCOOP will go on for 16 days, starting with the $200 buy-in Razz (Seven-Card Stud Low) tournament, and ending on October 1st with the $2,500 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em tournament, offering cash prizes of $3 million. H.O.R.S.E., a rotation of five varieties of poker, is making its online tournament debut at the WCOOP and will be one of this year’s tournament highlights. H.O.R.S.E. will no doubt be a main attraction for some of the top names in the poker world. Barry Greenstein, Team PokerStars spokesperson says, “Prestigious tournaments such as the PokerStars.com WCOOP are the ultimate way to improve your game and experience the excitement of big tournament play. The WCOOP is a popular event with the established stars of online poker, and the H.O.R.S.E. tournament is bound to attract the elite.” The 2005 WCOOP tournament series was the third largest online and land-based poker spectacle in the world, drawing in 19,727 players and generating $12 783 900 in prize money. If the amount of attention it is attracting is any indication, this year’s tournament is expected will likely break all previous records of attendance and prize money. Posted on: August 29, 2006
