Betfair, an online poker firm, has been granted permission by the government of Singapore to host a two million dollar poker tournament , making the company the first of its kind to be granted permission for such an event. Players from across the world will be competing for an anticipated $2 million prize fund. The event, scheduled for November of this year, will be open to professionals and poker enthusiasts alike as well as local players. Interested participants can qualify via Betfair poker or tournaments taking place all over the world. Joining Betfair as hosts of the tournament will be local operators, Capital Events. Betfair sees this as an opportunity to enhance its name recognition throughout Asia while working with local operators that understand the culture and regulatory restrictions of the region. “Singapore is an ideal place to host an event of this magnitude and we’re delighted to be given the chance to do it,” said Betfair’s Head of Poker, Ben Fried. “It’s a wonderful tourist destination as well as a hub of activity for the region." “Betfair is all about innovation and breaking new ground.
