For this bold move to succeed, the state will have to go head to head with Atlantic City and New Jersey, who both have a strong hold on the gambling industry in the Northern region of the United States.
Before the Country went into an economical recession, anyone who would have predicted, Pennsylvania would and could make a move like that, would have been sent straight to his or her psychiatrist, but as state budget gaps increased, so grew the need for additional sources of revenue. It wasn't long before the eyes of the State fell on the gambling industry, to be their savior.
Law makers were quick to make adjustment to the current gambling legislation, and as a result Pennsylvania is emerging as a gambler's Eldorado. Last December we saw the effects of this for the very first time, as revenues from Slot machines, surpassed those of Atlantic City, which was something the US had never seen before.
This summer we will witness Pennsylvania adding table casino games to their gambling repertoire, and with this bold move they are opening a frontal assault on Atlantic City, to overtake them as the gaming capitol, and it looks like Pennsylvania will be taking no prisoners.
In less than 14 days, the State is planning to take on both: Atlantic City, but also New Jersey, where gambling laws are also being changed, to enable fully fledged casinos. Time being short, the state has started rolling out the new casino games, and the last casinos to join in offering them have received the new crowd pleasers. Many of the Pennsylvanian resorts already belong to the top gambling destination in the US, and with the addition of the new games, they are bound to attract thousands of gamblers in addition to their existing clientele.
As for the reason that was given for allowing table games in the state, the enormous increase in job opportunities, legalizing gambling brings for the State's population, as well as the much needed increase in gambling tax revenues were pointed out.
Pennsylvania is not alone in their efforts to legalize gambling statewide, as many other states across the entire US, are looking at their current legislation, in order to change it and gain the much needed revenue that comes from bringing gambling to their state. A recent poll, conducted in the state of Texas, has shown for the first time, a majority for legalizing gambling in the state.
Other states currently developing new laws regarding gambling are California, Rhode Island and Nevada.
With all eyes focused on legalizing gambling, it won't be long until Pennsylvania, will have plenty of other competitors, nationwide to deal with, so they intend to use their head start, in order to gain a strong foothold in the market, in order to be able to hold their own.
