Using GameAccount as the provider, The Guardian, the major newspaper in the United Kingdom, has begun offering skill games at its website this week. Visitors to Guardian.co.uk will have access to ten classic real-money multiplayer games and tournaments through GameAccount’s network, joining players from 130 other countries. Online skills games are turning out to be quite popular and represent a significant growth area in terms of revenues. Well-established in the industry, GameAccount presents a natural partnership opportunity for both companies. The software allows registered users to play for fun or for real money. Guardian Unlimited users will have access to GameAccount’s classic multiplayer and ‘heads-up’ games such as Gin Rummy and Backgammon, as well as unique P2P variants of other games, including tournament Blackjack, Mah Jong, and a variety of popular Solitaire and card formats. The integrated network also supports bespoke tournaments. In these tournaments, the multiplayer games lobby allows players to see opponents’ moves in real-time, and is supported by in-game and ‘messenger’ chat functionality. Annie Wilson, Online Partnerships Manager at The Guardian said: “We are excited to be adding skill gaming to our online portfolio. P2P games offer our readers a competitive and engaging gaming alternative that enhances our existing games and betting offering.” According to GameAccount’s Chief Executive Kevin Dale, the demand for online skill gaming by blue-chip consumer brands is continuing to rise. ”The Guardian deal is another milestone for GameAccount. I am absolutely confident that our partnership with The Guardian will prove to be a long and successful one, with customer choice and total satisfaction clearly the number one priority.” GameAccount also powers FHM.com, PaddyPower.com, SkyBet, Sportingbet, and Wanadoo.
