According to a report from Xinhua, the police in China are continuing their policy of prosecuting online gambling cases and have prosecuted over 350 cases this year alone. Moreover, according to the Ministry of Public Security, the police have also detained over 700 suspects this year. Chinese officials are concerned that online gambling and online pornography, as well as the spread of computer viruses, are hindering the development of a healthy Internet environment. The police, therefore, plan to continue putting legal pressure on these types of activities until they cease. Some major cities have even established web sites where citizens can report online crimes. Other relevant departments are working with the Ministry of Public Security as well, hoping to educate people more thoroughly on Internet related issues and help establish a healthy, harmonious and orderly Internet environment.
