Last Thursday the figures for February were disclosed, showing am increase in revenues of approximately fourteen percent across the state. Several factors added to this major increase in revenues, like the Super Bowl games, that also were held in February of this year. February casino revenues, statewide totaled almost $ 9.5 million compared to just over $ 8 million last year. From that total $ 569 could be contributed to the Vegas casinos, who totaled just over $ 4 million in February, 2009. Traditionally the Super Bowl is the betting event of the year in the United States, and to bet on it is safest in Vegas. Beyond Vegas, bettors will have to wager through local sports betting operations, which are mostly illegal. Besides that, traditionally many gamblers prefer spending the weekend the event is held in Vegas. Due to the increase of gambling activities in other states across the US, travel to Nevada and New Jersey has decreased the last few years. With gambling facilities in their own state, the need to travel in order to gamble was no longer there. This year’s Super Bowl, that was held last February, provided a much needed increase in visitors to Las Vegas.
