Opposite approaches to the idea of the betting exchange which Betfair inaugurated and expanded in Australia made the limelight this week with the welcoming opportunity given by the New South Wales’ government to operate with the firm rather than fighting it in court as was Western Australia’s approach. Last week the government of Western Australia lost out in court and at the moment the New South Wales’ authorities claim that the High Court of Australia has confirmed its intentions to levy tax and create regulations for the state’s operations on the Internet betting exchange. North South Wales’s claim comes soon after the previous week’s High Court decision of a law in Western Australia stating that it is not according to the constitution and prohibits its residents from betting on the betting exchange. According to Peter V’landys, the racing North South Wales chief executive, who spoke to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the NSW strategy is precisely as that demanded by the High Court. He claimed that he has said all along that they insist on demanding equal fees for everyone and ensure that the contest is fair. He further added that that was precisely was the court had discovered and that is you shouldn’t make discriminations against anyone and nobody should be found more deserving. Posted on: April 8, 2008
