New Zealand's Christchurch Casino became the New Zealand Poker Championship venue during the week for the terminating table that evolved into a fighting competition manifesting a displaying phenomenon of poker dexterity. Facing each other for the final show down were the Australian and New Zealander players, respectively, the professional Eric Assadourian and the favorite Kiwi – Richard Grace and the former triumphed. Following the difficult competition, Assadourian came out the champ, and went home to Australia with one hundred thousand dollars top prize money as well as the cup and the sponsored seat in the Poker Main Event of the 2007 world series. Assadourian stated in a press conference that he utilized all his experience to triumph in the contest; however, he had to work really hard. Only one item occupied his mind and that was winning the match when he moved to the last table. As he piled up considerable piles of chips, players were falling away. A resident of Wellington, New Zealand, Grace, collected in his second placing some sixty thousand dollars. Mick Ryan, the operations manager for Christchurch Casino Poker, claimed that the tournament was a wonderful crescendo to a glittering poker week. He stated that it was wonderful to have a Kiwi champ in the finals, and players were attempting to oust each other directly at the beginning, however, Eric Assadourian, known as the Voice, knew at what stages to take risks and throughout the entire mach proved to be an astute player.
