National Problem Gambling Awareness Week in the US is approaching and Bet On Sports has chosen this time to reaffirm its commitment to addressing and fighting the problem of underage and addictive gambling. The publicly traded online gambling group, which includes online casino, sports betting and poker sites, wisely timed the statement so that it would coincide with National Problem Gambling Awareness Week and is using the opportunity to explain that the group’s various technological platforms are designed to ensure that its customers are protected and underage and problem gamblers are detected. Bet On Sports uses top-of-the-line security and fraud-protection software that monitors lost or stolen credit card numbers as well as histories of high charge-backs. The group also maintains a trained call-center staff that is capable of assessing and evaluating individual customer activity and needs. These staff members are trained to recognize and respond to specific playing and payment patterns that typically correspond to underage and problem gambling. Call-center staff personally call any customer who has been flagged as a potentially problem gambler and, through these calls, make an assessment about the customer’s gambling habits. If necessary, staff personnel can help ward off underage gamblers and provide assistance to problem gamblers. One tool at staff personnel’s disposal is the ability to shut down or apply a cool-down period to a customer’s account when deemed necessary. It is also possible to access educational information and links to support groups through the company’s numerous branded websites. “Most people don't know that we share their concerns about problem gambling," said Bet On Sport’s Director of Communications, Kevin Smith. “National Problem Gambling Awareness Week is an appropriate time to highlight our commitment to provide a safe environment for customers and to ensure that there are effective controls to prevent underage and problem gambling," he added.
