Thanks to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), which prevents financial transactions between US residents and online gambling companies, many US online gamblers were left out in the cold when it came time to withdraw their funds from NETeller, the Isle of Man regulated e-processor. The Act prevents NeTeller from paying out US players because the financial channels that NETeller uses for making payments have been made so complicated they effectively block payments. Neteller has assured the tens of thousands of Americans affected by the legislation, however, that their funds remain safe and secure. The Act also makes it near impossible for US players to continue with any online gambling activity because it has essentially eliminated all financial actions available to them for online gambling purposes. In the meantime, those affected have to wait patiently until NETeller management comes up with a way to pay out the money. In an attempt to assure the people waiting to collect their money, A NETeller spokesperson remarked, "As a top priority, we are working to resolve all withdrawal issues, but in the meantime we continue to maintain these funds in trust on your behalf. Please check this page regularly for more updates." NETeller maintains that they are doing everything in their power to resolve the problem and that players can rest assured that the strict financial regulations enforced on the Isle of Man protects all funds. Accordingly, the money is being held in suspended accounts and will be made available soon. Apparently, the volume of enquiries regarding this particular problem has been so great that the NETeller answering services contains the message, "NETeller does not have an estimated time for resolution." Instead, customers are being redirected to the FAQ page at www.updates.neteller, for the most up-to-date answers to their questions. There is also a new information email service that players can subscribe to by visiting the update page and sending NETeller their email address. As if all this weren’t enough anxiety and frustration for US players, last weekend NETeller decided to suspend ATM card privileges for Americans as well. Posted on: February 1, 2007
