In spite of ongoing rumors that the US Department of Justice is targeting yet another executive from an online gambling company, a spokeswoman for the DOJ has denied that this is so. Rumors have been circulating of late that the DOJ has issued a signed warrant for the arrest of an online gambling executive. The spokeswoman denied the rumor while responding to a press enquiry by the eGaming Review. The earlier arrests of BetonSports executive David Carruthers and Peter Dick, another online gambling company executive, have sparked alarm and fear in the online gambling business community and have also significantly injured investor confidence in the industry. The detention of Neteller company founders John Lefebvre and Stephen Lawrence further fueled concerns in the industry. Neteller no longer employs either Lefebvre or Lawrence. Fears were that a move by the US DOJ prior to the Superbowl would have a negative effect on Superbowl activity as well as create major mainstream publication headlines. Responding to a direct enquiry by eGaming Review, a Department of Justice spokesperson commented: “Nothing would be made public until an individual or company was charged”. EGaming Review reported that its Washington DC sources have indicated that US authorities are preparing a number of indictments against a high profile, US-facing online betting and gaming business.
