At what age did you first experience gambling?
I was brought up in the UK and my first experiences gambling that I can remember was whilst on holiday as a child, probably about 7 years old at the time, playing on slot machines on the arcade of some holiday resort somewhere, I think it was Blackpool, with a pocket full of 2ps which didn't take long to lose. I remember asking my mum for more change and being told NO  She said it was a waste of money gambling on machines but I remember thinking about what I could buy if I hit the jackpot ( something like 50p at the time)

I'd have to say about the same age as you Zep., 7ish and that too was on holiday somewhere in the penny arcades. I use to love the machines where you put your penny into a slot at the top of the machine and it rolled down to where there were hundreds of pennies siting on the top of a metal waterfall looking type of contraption which moved forwards and backwards and if you managed to get your penny to fall in the right place it would push several pennies off the bottom shelf into the winning collection tray. I was never keen on the slot machines as they seemed to take your money far too quickly and rarely paid out.

I cant remember the age exactly but it was about 10 and it was also in Blackpool. They had a game called 'The Grand National' and you had to roll a tennis sized ball up a slope where there were several holes at the top and try to get the ball to go down 1 of the holes. Each hole was worth 1, 2 or 3 and when the ball went down a 3 for instance it would move your horse forward 3 places. You were playing against other holidaymakers and not the machine or operators and you had to get your horse to cross the finish line first and if you were lucky enough to win you got given a token towards the prizes they had. The more tokens you won the bigger the prize you could choose. The game still exists today as well, I went there last year and had to have a go. :D

I remember that game and yes you are right it is still there today, I wasn't very good at it then and even worse when I played it last year but it was good fun playing it. I haven's seen that game anywhere else either which is strange as it appeared to be very popular.

Thats a nice looking piece of machinery, I've never seen one of those before.
The nearest I have gotten to a real roulette wheel is the one I had in my compendium of games as a child and I never knew how to play with it other than just spinning the ball around and that didn't last long as I soon lost it

LOL :D I had one of them too. I never knew what it was for either, I'm sure I use to use it as a spinning top upside down. :D
