An online gambling Christmas story

Things are rough out there on the streets. People are losing their jobs, there’s not much work around, food is expensive and to top it all, it’s snowing and very, very cold. After much hunting, I finally found a $8 per hour gig to get me over the holidays. Kitchen work for an embassy party. “Bring something to keep yourself amused during the downtime,” said the boss, so I arrived to work with my laptop. I can always gamble online while I wait for the next pile of dirty dishes.

So my New Year’s eve turned into the most profitable night of the year, thanks to my being motivated enough to look for a job. I arrived at work at two in the afternoon, in time to help with the setting of the tables. My job was folding the napkins. By time I had folded all one thousand napkins my mind was totally frozen. It was then seven and the boss told me to go someplace and relax until eight. I grabbed my laptop and hid in the bushes outside the study window where I would catch the spillover from the WiFi system. I logged into the online casino and decided to join a game of Texas Hold’em that was in progress.

I got a 2 and a 4 on the first deal and folded straight away. On the next deal I picked up a 9 and a 6. I bet my way through the second round but one look at the confident faces of the other players made me fold again. I was playing for the lowest possible stakes so it cost me very little. The next deal gave me a pair of kings. I anted up and waited nervously as the betting went around the table. Texas Hold’em is an entirely unpredictable online gambling game and here is the proof. There were four of us left in that hand. The flop included another king, so now I had three kings, a very sure hand. The other guys must have been holding good cards too as they all raised. The turn was a nine and I still felt pretty sure of myself.

And then came the river, nothing less than my missing king. I held 4 kings, unbeatable! I won about $1,000. Not bad when I am working for $8 per hour! Happy New Year!
