I live far away from America but Thanksgiving Day is still in my bones and the Thanksgiving Day turkey is comfortably under my belt. We wined and dined in honor of Thanksgiving Day until the early hours. Then we played a little slots in the online casino and finally we tumbled into bed. Today is Friday and I had warned them at the office that I would be out in the field for the day, so we slept until noon. Then I crawled over to the computer to check if any urgent emails had drifted in during our night of revelry. Nothing! Not a single email. I cannot remember this ever happening in the past 5 years. Not a spam, not an ad, not a joke. Nothing. Ten times on Friday I sat down in front of the computer and checked all my email accounts, business and private, willing a message to come through, but the modem remained unblinking. Finally, in desperation I logged into my favorite online casino, perhaps just to satisfy myself that the outside world still existed. A few minutes later I hit the online slots and played frantically to keep myself amused. I noticed that the slot machines were particularly noisy and I even checked the volume button to make sure everything was set normally. It was. Then I realized that the loud noise inside my study was caused by the total lack of noise outside. The shops are closed and no one is out on the streets. At about six on Friday evening, feeling adventurous and daring, I switched to playing the progressive slots. Do you want to hear the rest of this story? When playing progressive slots you have to play the maximum number of coins in order to qualify for the big jackpot. Playing max in an online casino means at least five bucks every time you hit the spin button, so it’s an expensive game. I resolved to stop at seven so as not to overspend. On my second last spin the fire alarm bell went off. It signaled my own personal life changing jackpot. Next year I will be buying my own Thanksgiving Holiday! Perhaps it’ll be an island in the Caribbean? Posted on: November 26, 2007
