It went like this. I came back from the office, parked my car in the basement number 4 and caught the elevator. It stopped at basement number 2 and Lisa, the widow who lives in floor 60, got in. I got a quick smile and I gave her a long smile back. I don’t know her but my friend Tom talked about her once and I’ve been dying to meet her. So we rode up together. I’m on floor 22 so it’s quite a ride, especially in silence. “Do you gamble?” I asked feeling absolutely stupid as the words left my mouth. What a pick up line! “Only online,” she answered. “I love online gambling! Do you?” “I spend a lot of time gambling online!” I blurted. “What are we playing for?” I asked. Lisa smiled at me and peeked at her cards. I had an Ace and a nine. I watched the flop. Lisa smiled as the third card came down. I saw another nine. On the turn she smiled again and I assumed I was beaten but I added another chip. I saw an Ace. I had at least 2 pairs. I decided to hang in there. On the river her face remained stony while I gloated at the sight of yet another ace. Full house! That set the pattern for my night of online gambling. At four, Lisa said, “I give up. I can’t beat you at gambling. Let’s go to bed.” Posted on: November 7, 2007
