We get to the marina after struggling through the Saturday morning traffic. At the marina we wander around for a while looking for the perfect spot that will give us the best and the most dramatic scenes of the boats anchored along the walkways. Sid is a master at charcoal sketching and I am a watercolorist. A marina is the sort of place which would keep us both occupied for a couple of hours while our wives are loading up in the supermarket. We do this once a month. I didn’t have a single thought about gambling online at that moment and I had forgotten that I was carrying the laptop in the bag with all my painting paraphernalia. Finally we find a place and settle down. I take out brushes, fill a small sawn-off plastic soda bottle with water, open the box of paints and dip my brush into the cerulean blue to start with the sky when a drop falls on the paper. I look up to see who the culprit is and another drop hits me in the face. It’s starting to rain! We pack up quickly and run for the coffee shop at the end of the wharf. Halfway through the first cappuccino, I remember the laptop. I tell Sid that I can offer him an alternative to painting I am pleased when he agrees that a spot of online gambling will keep boredom at bay. With the rain pelting down outside I log onto the online casino and we settle down to play a few hands of Texas Hold’em. We bet, Sid draws a 9 and a Jack. I draw a pair of 5’s. We bet again and the dealer puts down a 5, 9 and a Queen. Sid is excited. I am holding three 5’s and fit to bust. We bet again. Dealer drops a 2 onto the table. We both groan with disappointment. We bet again and the dealer drops the river card, a 7. My three 5’s wins the hand and the pot. Sid is upset, runs outside and announces that the rain has stopped. I check my emails and sure enough, there are 3 from my boss calling me into the office immediately. Not even rain, the laptop and the online gambling could save me from that one.
