This is my last article for gambling-forum.com. I enjoyed working here for the past two years, writing, researching and playing and I thank my bosses for the opportunity of working with them. After I finish this article and post it I will go to my gmail account and take all of my internet gambling alerts off of my list. From now on the only alert I will get will be about Martha Stewart and Teva and that’s only because I own their stock. I should have sold Martha when she went up to $32, but I gambled on her getting up to $35 and I lost. I could sell it now and break even, but I have faith in Martha and I believe her magazines will make a profit in another year or so and that she will be a smart buy for the long term. This is an emotional moment for me. I’m almost crying as I type this article. I’ve worked in the online gambling industry since 2001 and I expected this industry to be my career. I didn’t expect to write articles forever, but it was a nice way to earn a living while my kids are small. Most people in this industry are hit in some way from the new anti-internet legislation. All of the online gambling sites that catered to the US were hit in a bad way and are now suffering from losses and lay-offs. Those that didn’t allow US players in the first place can get experienced people for less money now that there isn’t any competition for them. At least someone is affected in a good way by the bad news. It’s nice to know that someone has a silver lining. Even if the anti-internet gambling bill didn’t pass it was obvious that the US Department of Justice was planning on making life hard for any and all executives or chairmen of online gambling firms. Rumors abound about a ‘watch list’ waiting at all airports for anyone going through affiliated with internet gambling. I don’t doubt that this list exists. I mentioned that I’m going to spend the next six months working on my novel. I’ve been working on the plot and my characters but I can’t wait to actually have the time to get stuck in full time. My now almost 11 month old will be starting day care next month and I will be writing full time for myself. I couldn’t be more excited about the prospect. The internet gambling industry is an amazing industry to work in. Or at least it was. I haven’t had a job as interesting or dynamic as running a group of casinos. I loved watching how people played and seeing their losses and wins. I loved sending out big winnings to regular players when they were disciplined enough to actually cash them out, rather than play them out. There isn’t a bigger rush than finding fraud in your casino and chucking them out. Especially back in the day when you could credit back the credit card before you received the chargeback. I was home sick when the owner of the casinos called me to tell me that my hunch about a group of players was right. They were cheating and the tech guys finally figured out how they were doing it. He also thanked me for yelling about it in meetings until I was blue in the face. No one ever doubted my hunches again. I loved the responsibility. For this job I liked the research. I loved reading the daily news and seeing what was happening out there. I was regularly sending my resume to an internet gambling human resources company in England for jobs, and would always get a phone call back with interest, but I never actually got an interview. Even still, it added some excitement to my day. Reading about different online casinos terms and conditions was always interesting. It never ceases to amaze me what places will try to get away with on their players. Going further with that, I’m also constantly shocked by the players who don’t bother to read everything on the site before depositing their money. If you have learned anything from my articles, it should be that money management is the most important part of playing. Without it you will very likely walk away from the table broke. Deciding on a maximum win and a maximum loss amount before you start to play and sticking with that amount regardless of the streak you are on is the only way to guarantee you will never become a gambling addict and the only way to be certain you will have enough money to pay the rent. Spending your rent money on gambling means you have a problem and should stop. The anti-internet gambling bill is economic protectionism, pure plain and simple. The US doesn’t care, it is their right and there isn’t anything we can do about it. I’m a US citizen and I understand that a country has a right to protect their money as they see fit. I’m taking a break from all of this for awhile. After being so deeply immersed I think it’s time to see what else is out there. I hope you all have a wonderful life and may all your winnings be big. Much warmth, GamingMomma. Posted on: November 23, 2006
