One thing is for certain. I will not miss my daily clean up of the message board on this site. Some of these spammers leave the vilest posts with links to things I don't even want to think about. On a happier note not every company in the online gambling industry is distraught over the new legislation in the United States. Some are just accepting it and moving on. Bodog has the solution for the new crisis which has hit the online gambling industry, get out of it completely. Ok, I'm stretching it. Calvin Ayre, the self-made millionaire, man I love to make fun of for his wanna-be-Hugh-Hefner gaggle of beautiful women following him everywhere entourage, has a music thing. According to the bodogmusic website, "Bodog Music is a co-venture agreement with Her Royal Majesty's Records (HRMR), distributed by Warner Music Canada. The new music entity is a result of Calvin Ayre's vision for the future expansion of the Bodog Entertainment Group." "Ultimately Establishing new standards in excellence and creativity, Ayre has been the principle driving force behind transforming the Bodog Entertainment Group into a media and entertainment powerhouse." "This web-based music marketing and distribution division features a roster of talented rock and hip-hop artists such as Bif Naked, Britt Black, The Heck, Todd Kerns and Dead Celebrity Status. Bodog Music's team of experienced producers and scouts are devoted to making Bodog Music the leader in 21st Century music production." In other words, Bodog is selling music online. Awful, B-list bands can hawk their wares on bodogmusic.com. I'm certain the entertainment industry is sleeping easier tonight knowing that. Ayre is also trying to be Bill Gates. Actually, if you think about it what a combo, Bill Gates and Hugh Hefner that is. Ayre isn't trying to revolutionize the software industry, he's simply started a charity in his name. I'm comparing him to Gates because that's what I think of now when I think of Bill Gates. I think of Oprah and the Gates Foundation, not Microsoft and crappy software that crashes too often and is filled with bugs. Gates has done a great job at changing his legacy and I think that is what Ayre is aiming for as well with the humbly named "Calvin Ayre Foundation, Helping Those in Need." The Ayre Foundation has a mission. "The Calvin Ayre Foundation is a private and independent organization dedicated to achieving meaningful and lasting improvements in the environment, and in the lives of disadvantaged individuals and communities." That's not too ambitious. Of course, Ayre isn't doing charitable work to promote his brand name in any way. There's a perfectly reasonable explanation why the name of Bodog.com Entertainment Group is in red when the rest of the information is in a charcoal gray on the charity sites Calvin Ayre's page. Making the name of his for-profit work pop on a page of charity information is just his way of showing where the money for the charity came from, right? Posted on: November 8, 2006
