I realize that every internet gaming casino, sportsbook, and poker room does their best to make their site the most realistic, graphically enjoyable, and intuitive to use. That bit is taken care of by experts in graphics and programming. However, the room you have your computer in is solely up to you and how you decorate it may actually affect your game. Is your computer room a mess? Does your keyboard look like it's been through hurricane Katrina? What about the colors of your computer area, are they bright happy and active, clinical and clean, or dark and dire? Just because you decide to stay home in your fuzzy slippers and ten year old sweats with holes all over (not to mention the stains on your favorite "lucky" t-shirt) doesn't mean that you don't have to pay attention to your gaming environment. In my past life I was an office manager for an architect in southern California. During this time I was exposed to the importance of the environment of the workplace and how it can affect ones productivity and mood. I was already vaguely aware of these issues from design courses I took in university. Feng shui was introduced to me over 10 years ago now (before it became the weird new agey phenomenon it has become today.) When I learned about Feng Shui it was more about common sense and placement of things than it was about crystals and mirrors. How your computer station where you choose to game is set up can end up effecting your game either positively or negatively on a sub-conscious psychological level. Cleanliness would be the first thing to address when discussing any workspace. Clutter doesn't just clutter up your mind with distractions that could take you off of your game, it could leave you annoyed without even realizing it. If your office is so chocked full of stuff that you have to go through a maze just to get to your desk the odds are you're already mildly off your game before you even reach your seat. Making sure the door opens completely so that you don't have to slide yourself in is another important detail in balancing the space where you play. This also holds true for the rest of the house, but we're focusing on your gaming here. Is your chair comfortable? Being annoyed by back pain won't do anything to help your concentration while playing. The colors which surround you also affect your energy levels, which will in turn affect your gaming. Yellow, red, orange, and other bright colors are active colors and are good to have near your computer in some capacity. Active colors promote brain activity and keep your energy levels up while playing. When used too much they can make you nervous and edgy, so best if you have only a space on a wall or an accent piece (like a vase) near your computer to give you the visual edge, but not knock you off the wall. Cool colors like blue, green, and pastels are calming colors (which is why you always see them in hospitals). Used in moderation they will make you calm and clear minded when you play. Used too much and your room will feel cold and perhaps put you to sleep. What room is your computer in? If it's right next to your bed the energy from the computer (even when it's powered off there's still a current running through it) could affect your sleep. If there's no other space to put it then perhaps you should consider getting a computer cabinet where your computer can be closed up when not in use. The same thing goes with the placement of your computer. It's best to have your body facing the door when you sit at a computer, not facing the wall. The reason for this is common sense, this way you can see someone come in a room and won't be startled or distracted by things going on behind you. While internet gaming casinos work hard to give you the best games possible players also have to accept responsibility for their environment when they game. By making your computer room or space an area you enjoy being in you are increasing your chances of being in a good mood while you game. A clean space keeps distractions at bay and a colorful (but not too much so) space can help keep your energy up. Posted on: November 22, 2005
