Cryptologic is bringing comic book heroes to their internet gaming casino software selection. Games based on Marvel Enterprises Inc. comic books will be developed, which means themes such as X-Men. Wagerlogic is Cryptologics internet gaming casino subsidiary and they are extremely excited about this development. According Lewis Rose, CryptoLogic's President and CEO "CryptoLogic's new relationship with Marvel - home to some of the world's legendary entertainment brands - will strengthen our competitive edge through new, exciting Super Hero-themed Internet casino games. By delivering big-name action like the X-Men and The Hulk to the Internet, we're enhancing the entertainment factor of CryptoLogic games - and helping our customers appeal to an even wider player audience." Of course, the themed games will be slots and progressives.
I have to admit reading this made me both happy and cringe at the same time. Comic books are traditionally for kids. This is a little too "Joe Camel" for me to be completely ok with it. If you’re not familiar, the Camel cigarette company was found to be advertising to children with their Joe Camel campaign and they were fined big time for this infringement. On the other hand, I like comics, especially X-Men (yes, I am a grown geek) and I'm 34, so it doesn't actually have to be aimed at kids. I can remember watching X-Men every Saturday at my best friends house when I was in university and we were well over 18 (the legal gaming age for most internet gaming casinos) so this doesn't have to wreak of something creepy. Of course, I find the idea of a Betty Boop slot machine creepy as well, and my mother who is almost 70 collects Betty Boop (that could be part of the reason I find it so creepy, but let's not go there).
Having played in Wagerlogic powered casinos previously I can vouch for the fact that their slots could use some creative updating. The Hulk, Daredevil, The X-Men, Blade and The Punisher will become new 9-line progressive jackpot video slot games. The Hulk was made into a movie (actually almost an art film) a few years ago by Ang Lee which does give some sort of credence that this could actually be aimed at adults. Geeky adults like me, but adults. The one interesting bit is that the new games offer multi-stage, interactive bonus levels with three separate jackpots available to be won. This is the first time multi-level jackpot games have been offered on the internet.
I'll assume that they will keep these games, and advertising for them, in the same ilk as the Tomb Raider Lara Croft game offered by Microgaming. It's a great slots game that would only appeal to a slots player, and not to the original market of teenage boys who play the Tomb Raider video game. If that is the case, this geek is behind them all the way.
