It’s been wild week and it ain’t over yet. George Bush and his financial wizards are trying to pull an obstinate rabbit out of their hat, but the rabbit has dug its claws into the soft material and refuses to let go. In my latest gambling trick I dropped a couple of big chips on the roulette table in my online casino, rubbed my hands, clicked my fingers, waved my magic wand and picked up a cool $60,000. “Let’s see you bet that, George Bush,” I cried in glee as my stocks tumbled another 10 percent down the steep hill and lost another $100,000. Chasing losses is known to be the shortest route to a gambler’s downfall. Any experienced gambler will tell you stories about a gambler he knows who lost huge money playing in the casino on Tuesday night and went back on Wednesday armed with a sizeable bankroll in order to ‘get his money back’. It was a fatal mistake because he gambled with only one objective in mind and threw all caution to the wind. He ended up losing his bankroll and resorted to using his credit card to get more money. He ended up losing everything. By the way, taking a credit card into a casino or putting it in sight when you are gambling online is an absolute no-no. What I’m doing is different. I am gambling to get back my stock exchange losses, a legitimate activity. After all, I went to great lengths to keep my two main money activities separate. I gambled online for fun and entertainment and I invested my money in the stock market, hoping for steady returns and good dividends so that I can continue to pursue my hobbies, one of which is gambling. Today, while the financial gurus play with the world’s future, I will concentrate on keeping my retirement fund full to the brim. I will play roulette again. Although it is sheer gambling in the purest form, it offers the chance of big wins. It also gives one a heart stopping few seconds while waiting for the little white ball to drop into the number compartment. A $50 chip on a single number gives you $1,750 and if you let it ride and it comes again, $60,000. Are you listening George Bush? Posted on: October 1, 2008
