If you are lucky, and you own a laptop, and you land up at the airport that offers a free WiFi connection to waiting passengers as at the Ben Gurion airport outside Tel Aviv, you could sit there comfortably for days and gamble online for free forever. The waiting area is superb and modern and well air conditioned and the wireless connection is just perfect. Be assured that you will not lose your connection while you are sitting with a straight flush in your hand. If you are less lucky, you find yourself at the Leonardo da Vinci - Fiumicino airport in Rome. It is less comfortable and there is no free connection. Worse, it’s almost impossible to figure out how to get the connection even if you are willing to pay for a few hours. No online gambling for me from here, I thought. And this is probably where I will lose my connection at a critical point. We sat there for hours waiting for a badly organized connecting flight. All airports are affected by security considerations nowadays. Half and one hour before the flight arrivals are now 2 and even 3 hours ahead of the flight and it takes something like online gambling to take one’s mind off the interminable waiting. It’s actually surprising that the online casinos haven’t cottoned onto the idea yet; rented small private rooms and installed online gambling terminals where waiting passengers can comfortably pass a few hours. That would solve a lot of the problems. Whatever is said about online gambling, and not only good things are said about it, it certainly passes the time and makes any kind of waiting more pleasant. In addition, with a bit of luck or skill, the waiting passenger could easily win himself the cost of the flight ticket. Imagine dropping a $50 chip on a roulette number, watching it win, letting the win ride and hitting it again. $60,000 will cover any ticket to anywhere! Posted on: October 31, 2007
