All things being equal and assuming that you are not a school boy and that you are in reasonable control of yourself, a little online gambling is good for you. It’s like whisky, taken in moderation at say one or two tots a day, it will keep your blood moving clockwise. What happens when you hit a bottle a day is another story. Online gambling works in much the same way. It’s basically an aerobic exercise in that it increases your heart rate and may even add money to your bank account. But you have to keep it under control. I confine my online gambling sessions mainly to the late evenings, the hours that I would spend in a real casino. Any kind of gambling in the sunshine hours seems quite out of place and lacking in culture. So on most evenings it’s after the nine o’clock news when I wander into the study and crank up my computer for an online gambling session. I do something else to stop the demons getting at me – I limit my bankroll at each session to $200. In other words the minute I lose all $200 I log out, switch off, stand up and walk away from the computer and I will not return that same day or evening. If I have lost $200 my blood corpuscles are really excited and running around looking for the culprit. I don’t need to do anything else to stimulate them, like the doctor says. These are my gambling rules and I never deviate from them. In the house next door they have no rules. I went in there one morning to borrow a cup of sugar and found the entire family, including kids and dog, crowded around a laptop in the kitchen. I peered over, convinced that there must have been an earthquake or some other disaster somewhere in the world and that they were watching the news. They were gambling in some online casino and it looked and sounded like there was a wild session of craps in progress. Posted on: October 15, 2007
