Bondi Beach is one of Australia's most famous beaches and among the world's most well-known beaches. The beach is roughly a kilometer long and is patrolled by lifesavers who make swimmers stay between the yellow and red flags. The sand is sparkling white and the sea in bight blue. Can you think of a better venue for an online gambling casino? The other attraction is that Australians are notoriously eager gamblers. There are little slot machines dens all over the city and anyone can walk in and play. The only anti-factor I can think of is that laptops and beach sand are not good mixers. So I take my laptop and park myself on a bench on the promenade overlooking the beach and log into an online casino. The roulette table is an immediate attraction and I scatter $5 chips across the table and wait for the spin of the wheel. Number 28, and of course I have nothing there. A man stops to watch, then leans in to see the screen better and says, “Put $50 on number 17 for me, mate,” and he passes me a fifty dollar bill. Australian dollars that is. I place a few small chips for myself, including two on top of his fifty and spin. Number 17 comes up, I dig in my wallet to give him his $1,750 and he leaves. Clever gambler. I am up $350 and I scatter more $5 on the table and spin. I am distracted by a group of topless girls walking by on the sand below me and I forget to watch the wheel. Wherever it lands, I do not have a chip. I bet again and this time I concentrate and win. Another man drifts along the promenade, stops to watch me, asks me to put five dollars on his birthday, waits for the spin, collects his winnings and moves on. My online casino is not doing well. I pack up my laptop and drop onto the beach. Here it’s a different world. The sand is soft and cool and the blue water with the big waves is ice cold. I think I’ll spend the rest of my holiday down here. Posted on: September 17, 2009
