The windows are all boarded up, the doors are screwed closed and my thumb is in a huge bandage where I hit it with the hammer while I was sealing the kitchen window. The desk computer is booted up and ready to go and I hope and pray that the telephone lines outside are secure and will remain that way. I have a wireless connection throughout the house, but I’m not sure if it depends on wires or satellite. I guess the satellite may get wiped out in the hurricane as well! I have set up my online casino in the den. Drinks are lined up on the side desk in case I need lubrication to get through the storm and the computer is fired up and ready to go.

I start off by playing an hour of blackjack in the online casino in order to raise a little gambling capital. Blackjack may be a gambling game but this is the one where it is easiest to beat the casino. I copy and paste the Basic Blackjack Strategy table into the word processor and print it. I stick it on the wall in front of me and I start playing strictly in accordance with it.

I play slowly and carefully, listening to the noise of the wind growing steadily. I play classic blackjack in the online casino and I do not move a card without consulting the Strategy. The little pile of chips I started with grows slowly but surely and after 2 hours I reckon I have enough to start enjoying myself. The storm is raging outside and I am pleased that I can’t see the destruction going on. All those fruit trees that I planted so lovingly and with such hope…

I change the game to Texas Hold’em and pick up a pair of kings in the first hand. I pick up a third king in the flop and I move my entire pile of hard-earned chips to the betting area on the table. How can I miss this one? The lights in my online casino go out with a bang as the turn comes down showing another king.
