I was right about the mall. It’s cool here, cool enough to drop onto a bench, crank up the laptop and log into an online casino. I never used to like this game when I first found it, but the more I play and watch it on the TV, the more I appreciate what a great game it is. In order to play you have to be a great bluffer, just be able to sit there like the sphinx showing no emotion.

Of course you have to know the rules of poker and the rankings of the poker hands. Then you need nerves of steel and nothing must frighten you. Finally it is the two cards that are dealt to you right at the beginning of your hand that make you a winner or not. Only you know what those two cards are. I join a video Texas Hold’em game in the online casino, click to make a bet before I receive any cards and then sit back to wait for my two cards and to watch the action. I am dealt and Ace and a 7, nothing to write home about, but I decide to stay in the game.

The flop is King, 9 and 4. No help for me. I raise my bet. I am clearly affected by the heat outside. The turn is a 7. I have a pair of 7’s. Am I getting somewhere? I click a   small pile of chips into the betting area. The heatstroke is worse than I thought. The river comes down. Another 7! What do you know, three 7’s! Now I have to wait for the online casino to catch up. Three 7’s may well do the trick. And it does. I win a nice pot, enough for a large milkshake and a dazzling smile from the pretty blonde at the milk-bar.
