They had no internet, of course, but perhaps there were other ways of getting their bets to the casinos, smoke signals, drums or something. It’s of little importance. I wasn’t born with a jackpot winner’s slip in my mouth, so I’ll just keep chasing after my own jackpot. I’ve been close a couple of times… Today I’m chasing a huge jackpot at a Texas Hold’em game in the Glass Slipper Online Casino. At this very moment I’m sitting with a 4 and a 9 and feeling rather stupid. What should I do with them? The obvious answer is to fold, throw in my cards and lose my stake. But there’s something about human preservation that makes one behave even more stupidly. Or is it the online casino? So I smile and push a pile of chips into the jackpot. The noise of yelling relatives bursts into the room as my wife comes in to check on me. I smile at her and she leaves. The flop comes down and I see a 4, 10 and Jack. I have pair of 4’s and I know I m not going anywhere with this hand. I raise my bet again and watch an Ace hit the table. Again I bet and see that the river card is a 3. I lose, exactly as I knew I would. Deal the next hand. Online gambling is for suckers. I bet and I get two 7’s. I bet again and wait for the flop. Ace, Jack, 3. No good to me. The turn is a 7. I’ve got three of them, a great hand. The river comes down and it’s a Jack. I have a full house, gentlemen, Jacks and sevens, I announce and wait for somebody to announce a better hand. There isn’t one and the very healthy jackpot is mine. The online casino was kind to me tonight. It’s not always like that. In the end the best hand wins in Texas Hold’em. It’s how you bluff that counts. Posted on: September 1, 2008
