The weather changed today. I thought I could even smell a hint of autumn in the air, but at a temperature of almost 90 that’s probably just a rumor! Anyway I decide to take my laptop to the park and lie on the grass under a tree and see if I can fathom out the problems in Chapter 1, the most important part of the book, the chapter that is supposed to nail the reader, not frighten him off. I gambled online all night and some fresh air will be good for me. Under the trees I open the laptop and hit the power button. The thing clanks and groans as usual except out here in the park the noises are muffled. Finally the screen comes to life and then I see the sign ‘searching for a wireless connection”. I am about to hit the cancel sign but the sign goes off and I see that I have a good connection. I look around and see the retirement home across the street. That’s it, I think. Well, perhaps I’ll just loosen up my fingers with a spot of online gambling, seeing as though I have a connection. I log into the Silver Slipper, check my credit balance and see that I have almost 600 dollars. I think briefly about chapter 1 of the book and decide that I will probably earn more in the online casino than I will in book sales. Inside the casino I select blackjack and I start playing with 50 dollar chips. I bet fifty on the first hand and I get a pair of 10’s. I split them, bet another 50 on each hand, pick up a 2 on the first. I take a hit of 5 and another hit of 4, giving me 21. On the second game I pick up a king and I stand on 20. The dealer busts. Now I have money to play with. I also have gathered a ring of spectators around me. They watch in silence as I slowly and surely build up a nice two thousand dollars before I log out of the online casino, switch off the laptop, close the cover and walk home feeling very satisfied. The book? One day when the blackjack table’s not so hot! Posted on: September 17, 2007
