Wow, is it hot and humid! Here the thermometer hovers around the 30 degree mark with 70 percent humidity. But I met a guy today who was wearing a sweater. “What the …” I exclaimed. He explained that he had just flown in from Phoenix where the thermometer was hovering at 45 degrees. I asked about the humidity. “Who cares? In that heat you stop thinking about everything except keeping close to an air-conditioning outlet.” And that’s exactly what I have been doing. I moved my entire home computer installation under the cold air outlet so I can sit in one of the online casinos and gamble to my heart’s content while feeling really cool about it. All I need now is nice fat win to make me feel that I really have this heat wave beaten. A little blackjack could make difference, I think. Especially an online game with a sympathetic dealer. Funny how these online characters develop their own personalities if you play with them often enough. The guy I get is an old friend and if he was a little more animated I reckon he would have smiled at me when I sat down at his table. I play with $100 chips. He starts off by dealing me a King followed by an Ace. Blackjack! A great start. I then lose four hands in a row but split tens on the next hand and pick up an ace on the left hand and a king on the right. Two good wins and I’m back in the money. I get another blackjack. It’s going well and I double my bets to try and pick up some more money, but it doesn’t help. I switch to roulette and scatter $10 chips across the table. One chip falls on 7 and it comes up giving me close to $300. All of a sudden the temperature drops, the humidity dries up, I am on a streak and that’s the only thing that counts. I let my winning bet ride, put $100 on the first dozen, scatter a couple of chips and sit back while the wheel spins in the online casino and starts its nail-biting clickety-click routine. What do you know – 7 again? And the first dozen as well! I always knew 7 was my lucky number. Hot? Who says it’s hot? Posted on: August 2, 2007
