One’s holiday starts at the airport. It is packed to the gills and bulging at the seams with anxious holidaymakers desperate to climb onto a plane and get to their destination. The children, and there seem to be thousands of them, are impatient beyond reason. All eyes are glued to the departure boards. I am crammed into a tight corner and have to strain my neck around a wall to see the board. I find a place to rest my laptop and manage to get the top open and log in, thanks to the airport’s free WiFI wireless system. I go straight to the Silver Spanner, my favorite online casino where I know I will find peace, distraction and entertainment. In this tumult, I choose to play the slots so that I can keep an eye on my bags, watch the departure board from time to time and generally be part of the airport crowd while I spin the reels hoping to hear the bell ringing when I hit the progressive jackpot which I see is standing at a little over 3 million dollars. That would buy some holiday I think, picturing the stuffy Turkish resort that I am headed for. Ah well, as long as there’s online gambling, there’s a chance of a millionaire holiday resort someplace. A few people collect around to watch me playing and occasionally one of them makes a suggestion. Nothing helps and my money drifts away slowly. I switch to video poker and more people come to see what’s going on and soon everyone is shouting advice. “Hold that king!”, “Draw three!” “That’s a full house!” Then I hear a voice shout, “Oh no! The 2:50 to Istanbul had been cancelled!” There is a roar from the crowd who swing away from the online casino to look at the board. “Wow! The 3:25 to Paris is cancelled!” My innocent little game of online slots turns into instant chaos and people begin rushing here and there, dragging cases and children and yelling questions at the counter which is a hundred yards away. How I love the summer holiday season! Posted on: July 15, 2008
